Lovely example of a Eocene era ( 56 to 33.9 million years old) 'Diplomystus Dentatus' from the Green river formation, Wyoming. This example is the perfect for size small hands to explore and inspire learning of the natural world around us.

Diplomystus is a now extinct genus of freshwater, ray-finned predator fish that is distantly related to modern day herrings and sardines, which lived during the Eocene era ( 56 to 33.9 million years ago.)

Diplomystus has a distinctive jaw that protrudes outward from the mouth at an angle that allowed it to feed in surface waters and devour its prey which included the 'Knightia'.

 

Dimensions: 4.2 x 3.9 inch plate, Fish is 3.5 inches long.
