Diplomystus is a now extinct genus of freshwater, ray-finned predator fish that is distantly related to modern day herrings and sardines, which lived during the Eocene era ( 56 to 33.9 million years ago.)
Diplomystus has a distinctive jaw that protrudes outward from the mouth at an angle that allowed it to feed in surface waters and devour its prey which included the 'Knightia'.
